Mr. Terry Walker Jr., composer

Mr. Terry Walker is currently pursuing a DMA in Choral Conducting with a Vocal Pedagogy cognate at the University of Memphis. He serves as the conductor of the Treble Chorus, Mazi. He previously served as assistant director of the University Singers, the flagship ensemble at the University.

Previously he  taught for twelve years in the state of Mississippi. He served as the Director of Choral Activities at Long Beach High School (LBHS) in Long Beach, MS,  and assistant director at Warren Central High School in Vicksburg, MS. Career highlights include an intonational tour of Italy, State Convention invitations, Masterwork performances, and over 150 performance invitations across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Mr. Walker earned both his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 2009 and his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting in 2011 from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). In 2006, he toured Spain with the Triumph Ministries Chorale, a choir that specializes in spirituals and gospel music under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Murdock. 

He has had the pleasure of attending master classes given by renowned artists such as the New York Voices, Mack Wilberg, Jerry Blackstone, Andre Thomas, and Arvo Pärt. His mentors include Philip Copeland, Gregory Fuller, John Flanery, Jeffrey Murdock, and Nancy Robertson. He has served as the Director of Music at Main St. United Methodist Church in Bay St. Louis, MS and currently serves as the Chancel Choir Director at Highland Heights Presbyterian Church in Cordova, TN.

An active member of ACDA and NAfMe, Mr. Walker has served as MS District VIII chair. Mr. Walker has also served as Male Voices Repertoire and Resources, President, and is currently Past-President of the Mississippi chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (MS ACDA). He currently resides in Southaven, MS with his wife Angelique, their two children, Terry III, and Adelaide.
